the mission:Lisbon
Six days. One city. I toured, I conferenced, and I branded my way through Lisbon. This artist-at-heart came home with a full cup. Lisbon is splashes of colorful tile, delicious tastes, and layer upon layer of centuries-old detail: a glorious mash-up of cultures that somehow all agree to share the same hillside. What struck me most is how gracefully Lisbon holds two things at once. It honors its past without getting stuck there, and it leans into the future without bulldozing what came before. The charm is impossible to miss: vintage trams climbing impossible grades, hand-laid stone sidewalks polished by ages of foot traffic, and facades so lovingly crafted they make most American efforts blush.
Wander the winding alleys and lung-burning staircases long enough and you’ll see it everywhere: creativity spilling out of every corner, and a refreshingly bold dose of female-forward energy. The women of this city are clearly steering its next chapter. LX Factory says it loud and proud, with its neon statement wall and feminist concept shops like https://www.instagram.com/makeup_a_mess/. This one's an imperative - you must never leave Lisbon without trying the chocolate cake at https://www.landeau.pt/.
Lisbon is one of the most photographed cities on earth, and the iconic shots are iconic for a reason. But, I set out to make every frame mine: my angle, my moment, my story. It’s exactly how I approach every client. No two sessions are ever alike, because no two people are.
taking a bite out of branding
The illustrious Menopause Nutritionist (https://www.instagram.com/menopause.nutritionist/) had been flirting with the idea of a branding refresh for quite some time. The catch? Jenn lives in the Netherlands, and I do not. Between the time zones and two very full calendars, getting us in the same place at the same time took patience, ingenuity, and probably a little divine intervention. Then the photo gods smiled upon us and delivered Lisbon. Jenn, a devoted traveler herself, leapt at the opportunity and Lisbon’s rich, colorful streets became her personal marketing playground.
Speaking of alignment... this woman waited a VERY long time to work with me. She had no shortage of photographers to choose from, but I wasn’t just any photographer. I was a fan. A follower. A card-carrying member of her audience who had been cheering on her mission from the sidelines for years.
So, naturally, I became her person.
And honestly? Choosing a photographer who genuinely gets your ethos is a game changer. I didn’t need a briefing on Jenn’s goals because I’d been quietly studying them for years through her posts, messages, and reels (in a supportive way, not a creepy way, I promise). By the time we met, I already knew exactly what mattered to her.
Jenn was crystal clear about one thing above all: she wanted to be relatable. Not too polished, not too buttoned-up. Just the real woman her clients see day in and day out, sharing her message of food freedom and an evidence-based approach to midlife wellness. Which is how I found myself photographing her...
mid-sandwich. A career first for me, and hopefully not the last. If you’re going to preach food freedom, you might as well take a big, joyful bite on camera.
the historian
Much of my work lives in the BioPharma world, and I’ve had the privilege of documenting teams who pour their hearts into rare disease therapies. Every global summit leaves me a little more hopeful. These are kind, compassionate, fiercely dedicated people, and watching them grow closer as a team never gets old.
This global gathering landed at Pátio da Galé (https://www.casadomarques.pt/en/event-venues/patio-da-gale/), a showstopper of a venue in the heart
of Lisbon. We wrapped things up with a scavenger hunt through the city’s hills. Sweaty? Absolutely. Lively? Hell yes. (Gazpacho shots, anyone?)
This was my third event with this particular therapy team, and at some point in closing comments, the host publically called me the team's “official historian.”
In front of everyone. Photographers so often blend into the background (that’s kind of the job), so hearing my role named out loud genuinely moved me. Sometimes a little external validation is just plain nice. And- it sharpened something I already vehemently believe : a professional photographer at your events, speaking engagements, or any moments worth remembering isn’t a luxury. It’s a 10x elevation. Sure, you could do it alone. But why would you want to?
putting it all together
Every time I show up for you, I’m there to help you shine. I take the weight of documentation off your shoulders, and show you possibilities you didn’t know
were there. I handle the visuals so you can pour your energy into what matters most, the work that makes your ship sail faster, stronger, and smoother.
No more wondering how to stand, whether the light is doing you any favors, or which coworker you can bribe into grabbing a shot of you mid-keynote.
I notice the little things. I craft the moments. I use personality and industry-specific visuals to amplify everything that makes you - you.
So the question isn’t whether you should hire a professional. It’s how soon you’re going to make the call.
